Casa de Mi Sueno, Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #1109
Built: 1936 Declared: 04/13/2016
A two-story Spanish Colonial Revival style residence built in 1936 for Sophie and Harry Cubbison, founders of the Cubbison Cracker Company and best known for “Mrs. Cubbison’s Dressing.” It is believed that Mrs. Cubbison was the principal designer of the house, inspired by the Mexican adobes she had known as a child, naming the home “Casa de Mi Sueno,” meaning “Home of My Dreams.” The execution of the design is so authentic that in the text Architecture in Los Angeles: A Compleat Guide, the house is mistakenly listed as being a true adobe built in 1923.
