Birtcher – Share Residence, Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #612
Built: 1942 Declared: 11/08/1994
This home was designed by noted architect and student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Harwell Hamilton Harris in 1942. Its design was Harris’s concept of the style as taught to him by Wright, though it also exhibits influences by both R.M. Schindler and Richard Neutra. Harris was largely responsible for bringing back the use of redwood construction in California. This home was early in Harris’ career and served as a model for many designs by both Harris and subsequent architects. A model of this house was displayed at an architectural exhibit in Paris in the late 1940s.
