Piper House
Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument
#540,
Declared July 19, 1991
This Craftsman house was constructed in
1905 for William Neely. It contained elaborate mantles, one of which was cast
concrete logs; and alabaster fixtures. Abandoned after the death of the owner in
1991, the home went through several hands due to the estate being handled
through the courts and the house was burned to the ground by vandals on August
20, 1995. Several years later, two historic homes were moved onto the site by John
Nese, known locally as "the king of pop" for his soda pop store,
in conjunction with the Highland Park Heritage Trust.
