A. J. Madison House, Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #550

Built: 1920  Declared: 10/02/1991

This Prairie Style house, built by A. E. Finley and A. J. Madison, was designed by Arthur G. Lindley, who also designed the First Methodist Church, the Masonic Temple, and the façade of the Alex Theater in Glendale. Lindley, the son of a large brick manufacturing plant owner, specialized in creating archetypal structures, whether the design was for a church (ornate and traditional), Masonic Temple (imposing and secure), theater (lavish and eye-catching), or home such as the A.J. Madison House (serene and gracious).
